The unintended expat blogger behind Wild Fern Orbit

Hi there, I'm Sophie
I'm a project manager, a parent, and an expatriate based in Zurich, Switzerland.
Several years ago I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually turned into a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Switzerland wasn't in the long-term plan. As with many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complex than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of hands-on learning. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Wild Fern Orbit
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap with practical advice grounded in real life in Switzerland.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Practical experience gained from living in Switzerland
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever a real change occurs
This site isn't:
- A resource from tourism authorities
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Switzerland continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue documenting what we learn.
If you have questions about family life in Zurich or anywhere in Switzerland, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Cheers,
Sophie
